Kent-based fresh-produce distribution and logistics firm Fresh Service has acquired the Paddock Wood and Sheerness operations of RW Simpson with effect from October 23.
RW Simpson’s Sheffield and Peterborough depots are not included in the deal. Fresh Services now has 130 staff in total.
The acquisition, for an undisclosed sum, will see all 30 of RW Simpson’s staff at both depots transfer to Fresh Service.
“We work in the same patch as RW Simpson and decided to do some work together for logistical reasons,” said Fresh Service md Brian Porter. “Now we have ended up taking that part of the business over. There will be significant advantages: with larger volumes we can make fewer deliveries or offer earlier delivery times, for example. We have always been more warehousing and distribution focused, whereas Simpson is more transport focused.”
