THE ANNOUNCEMENT of Queen Elizabeth II's new year's honours has brought recognition for the fresh produce industry.

Tesco chief executive Terry Leahy and CWS group chief executive Graham Melmouth will both be knighted for their services to food retailing and the retail industry, respectively.

Seed potato grower James Cruickshank has been awarded an OBE for his services to the potato industry, and John Wood for his services to food safety and the Food & Drink Federation. l
