Tailoring the UK fresh produce sector to consumer tastes of tomorrow will be discussed at a key industry conference next month.

Chief executive of the Institute of Grocery Distribution (IGD) Joanne Denney will talk to the country's top growers about the consumer of the future and how the UK's horticulture industry can help satisfy its demands at the Horticulture in Focus convention, to be held on February 28.

Denney will be the key speaker at the one-day conference, which is expected to bring together leading suppliers and buyers from around the country.

National Farmers Union president Ben Gill will also attend the event at The Royal Lancaster Hotel in London.

Gill said: 'Horticulture in Focus will provide an extremely important opportunity for the industry to reflect on 2001 and fix its sights on targets for 2002 in this fiercely competitive and demanding sector of our industry.' A series of seminars will also be held, tackling key issues facing the industry – including trading in global markets, the buyer supplier relationship and the influence of Europe on trade.
