Fresh Direct, winner of the 2005 Carmel Foodservice Supplier of the Year at the Re:fresh awards in May, has won another accolade - Oxfordshire Business of the Year.

The Bicester-based wholesaler also won the Growing Business of the Year category at a gala night in Oxford before being named as the overall winner. “Having won one award we were not expecting any more but to take the overall title was fantastic,” said md Nigel Harris.

Turnover at Fresh Direct is predicted to top £48 million this year which is twice its 2002-03 levels. The company has opened a second depot in Manchester.

“It is great for the business and the recognition it gives our industry,” said Harris who took the business over from his father in 1997 with his brother Colin, now operations director. “It is also a real boost for staff and the awards also allow us to see how we stand against other firms in the area.”
