Mack and Thanet Earth have supplied FareShare with surplus produce since 2013

Fresca has now supplied FareShare with enough surplus fresh produce to make one million meals, the fresh produce giant has announced.

Two of the Fresca Group’s businesses, Mack and Thanet Earth, have provided one million portions of excess fruit and vegetables to the food waste charity since 2013 – an achievement that Fresca described as an “amazing milestone”.

Surplus tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers from specialist glasshouse growers at Thanet Earth, and fresh fruit and vegetables from Mack, which supplies the UK’s major retailers, are donated to FareShare on a regular basis. This is produce that the Fresca Group finds 'unecomic to sell but which is prefectly fresh, healthy and eminently edible'.

FareShare then passes on these donations to the charities and community groups it supports, including children's breakfast clubs, homeless shelters, older people's day centres and community centres for disadvantaged families.

Fresca’s chief executive Ian Craig said: “It’s great to see Fresca leading the way on socially responsible ways to manage the inevitable volumes of surplus we generate.

“By building this relationship with FareShare we get to see much more good coming from our surplus and our people get the satisfaction of knowing that good food isn’t wasted.”

The company stressed that there continues to be a huge demand for FareShare’s services – particularly during the Christmas period.

“We continue to be proud supporters and will be working hard to make sure the next million meals we provide are every bit as tasty as the first,” the Fresca Group wrote in a press release.
