Fresca Group LTD has announced it has decided to close the Liverpool Produce Terminal (LPT).

The group suspended operations at the port for one month to conduct a consultation to explore the options that may allow it to continue trading.

Fresca said: “Unfortunately, none of these options can be considered commercially viable. The closure of LPT brings 42 redundancies.”

“We reiterate our original assertion that the failure of LPT is in no way down to the people concerned, but to external financial pressures affecting shippers and customers alike which affected base costs and margins throughout the supply chain.”

The £6 million quayside coldstore was built by Mersey Docks and ICA and operated by Go-Associates, a company formed to promote and develop LPT’s business.

The Seaforth Docks site was acquired by Cold Move Ltd in July 2009 after Go-Associates entered liquidation and attracted business from Fresca, which eventually acquired the facility last year after using the site.
