Paul Butlin has been appointed to the board of Fresca, the UK’s largest independent supplier of fresh produce.

Butlin joined Mack in November 1985. Nearly 23 years later, he has enjoyed a career with the Mack Wholesale Division that has taken him from heading up the fruit department at its Birmingham branch to branch manager, then to general manager of the Mack Wholesale Division upon the retirement of John Jackson.

Butlin visits the Mack sites at Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Newquay, Southampton and Wolverhampton on a day-to-day basis, overseeing operations and helping develop Mack business opportunities and staff wherever possible.

A Fresca statement said: “The Fresca board will benefit from Paul’s wealth of experience in the sector; his appointment providing a fresh angle for the board as he represents the group’s steadily growing wholesale division at such a strategic senior level.”

Fresca chief executive Chris Mack also announced another change to the board. Stephen Robertson stepped down as non-executive director with effect from September 24, 2008. On behalf of the board, Mack thanked Stephen for his valued contribution to the business and wished him well in his role with the British Retail Consortium.
