The FNPD-CGT is awaiting confirmation that negotiations with the government and the stevedoring companies will resume tomorrow.

General secretary Tony Hautbois told freshinfo: “We will go into these negotiations in the hope of reaching an agreement but if no progress is made then clearly there is a likelihood of further industrial action taking place. We expect to be able make our position known on Thursday."

Meanwhile, France’s fruit and vegetables importers trade body, the CSCSIFL, has pointed the finger at the government for its handling of the port strikes.

“We’ve left the government in no doubt as to the damaging effect of these strikes on our member firms, in terms of instigating costly contingency plans. But our appeal has fallen on deaf ears and we’ve been left to fend for ourselves basically,” said CSCSIFL’s general secretary, Véronique Declerck.

“We are now facing the prospect of the rolling strikes resuming next weekend (from 11 February),” she added.

Update 10-02-2011: The FNPD-CGT has announced that it has called for the suspension of all industrial action from today and while negotiations are ongoing.
