Free fruit for Burnley workers

Burnley Council is attempting to show firms in the borough how a fruit-heavy diet can make their workforce much more effective.

The council-led healthy eating scheme will see 40 companies across Burley get a free weekly fruit delivery for the next 10 weeks.

Funded by the East Lancashire Primary Care Trust, the scheme hopes that the individual companies will continue the scheme once the 10 weeks are over.

Environmental health officer at Burnley Council, Jayne Enright, said: “The aim is to encourage people to eat more healthily by eating more fruit. We are also hoping to raise awareness about the benefits of eating five portions of fruit and vegetables a day as part of a healthy diet.

“Hopefully the firms taking part will see the benefits of a healthier workforce in terms of the benefits for their business.”
