Free Ethical Grower Handbook updated online

A free updated Ethical Grower Handbook has been published online to help small and medium-sized businesses stay on top of recent changes to UK employment regulation.

It is designed to help growers learn all they need to know about existing legislation and the new legislation such as the Agency Workers Regulations and UK Bribery Act.

Salad and onion grower Langmead Farms said the handbook was a great resource.

Junior technical manager Julia Matthews said: “It makes it easier for us as a grower to build robust management systems that ensure we grow our produce in line with the best ethical standards and keep up to date with the latest legislation and news.”

Langmead Farms is one of a group of growers working with supermarkets on developing and updating the UK Growers’ Handbook.

The website, funded by The Co-operative, Marks & Spencer, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Waitrose, was launched in 2007.

The Handbook offers practical help and guidance on topics such as health and safety, working hours, payment of wages, young workers and agency labour.
