Frank Payne, the widely respected sales and marketing executive who worked with several of the major London-based importing and distributing companies at a time when the industry was changing fast, died on February 4 at the age of 73.

He began his career with Butcher and Hopper in Covent Garden and then moved to the Louis Reece Group, where his name became synonymous with developing its business with Agrexco and its UK grower partnership, Checkers Growers.

He was a cornerstone in the emergence of MRS (Mack/Reece/Saphir partnership) and then joined the Glass Glover Group, before being recruited by the Poupart Group.

Frank retired 10 years ago, and leaves a widow, son, daughter and four grandchildren.
