The Fresh Produce Consortium is organising a workshop with SITPRO, the trade facilitation body to identify strategic problems the industry has with importing fresh produce and what government departments can do to make efficiencies and improve regulation.

The event is being held in London on April 6 and hopes to gather case studies to demonstrate the impact and costs for the industry to government. The issues that FPC is keen to examine are unnecessary delays in holding produce at ports, as well as lack of consistency between different port authorities, failure of IT systems and delays in obtaining clearance for consignments.

Nigel Jenney, ceo of the FPC, said: “Even if you cannot attend on April 6 we still want to hear from you, so let us have your feedback by April 1.”
