UK importers must test all carrots brought in from Italy for chlormequat before they go on sale, the Fresh Produce Consortium has advised. The warning comes following discoveries of chlormequat exceeding maximum residue levels in untopped carrots imported from Italy into Germany. 'Importers must ensure that all their pesticide usage for carrots is in conformity with the EU regulations,' the FPC said in a statement.

Four lots of untopped Italian carrots imported into Germany were found to exceed the MRL. The source companies were Adam Theis GMBH, Fruchtunion Duisburg and Agrimpex.
