Fowler Welch expands for airlines

Specialist distributor of temperature-controlled foods, fresh produce and horticultural products, Fowler Welch Coolchain has taken delivery of a number of refrigerated trailers with rollerbed floors from Gray & Adams to cater for its expanding business with the airline industry.

The specialised trailers, which have been purpose-built for Fowler Welch Coolchain, are being utilised to support the operations of several leading US and European airlines and are operated mainly between the UK and Holland.

The 13.6 metre chassis-less trailer trailers have an interior height of 2,500mm and an interior width of 2,490mm have been specified for a 44 tonne operation. The trailers are fitted with five track hydraroll floors for the carriage of jumbo pallets, and for load security, each floor has two flip up pallet stops and five track end impact rollers. To cater for the single temperature operation the trailers have Thermoking Sterling 50 refrigeration systems. The incorporation of Gray & Adams own stainless steel compression buffers enhances rear end protection during loading and off loading.

Robert Oliphant, national fleet manager for Fowler Welch Coolchain, said: “Our business with the airlines continues to expand, hence the requirement for the addition of these purpose-built trailers. We opted for Gray & Adams because we have developed a long term partnership with them. They have proven to be one of the leading suppliers in the marketplace in terms of build quality and they are able to design and produce the bespoke specifications required for our different applications.”
