A US burger chain is promising to put locally sourced fresh produce at the heart of its offer when it opens in the UK.

Carl’s Jr - which has achieved notoriety for its controversial adverts and unusual menu selections - is looking for partners to open 25 outlets across the UK later this year.

A spokesman for the chain confirmed that it would be sourcing fresh produce from UK growers, adding that its arrival would help bring millions of pounds into the British economy.

“We’re on our way and are confident of finding companies capable of investing £16m plus for a 25-unit licence,” said Ned Lyerly, executive vice-president of franchise development.

“This is a sound investment and is likely to appeal to organisations that already have experience in foodservice and have access to a big pot of working capital.”

Carl’s Jr has become a worldwide internet hit for its racy ads featuring Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian, while it also hit the headlines last year by launching a one-foot long burger.

The company has a turnover of more than £3 billion and has a portfolio of over 3,100 restaurants in 18 countries.
