Foodservice group appoints ethical ambassadors for Fairtrade Fortnight

As Fairtrade Fortnight fast approaches, foodservice giants the Compass Group are appointing Fair Trade Ambassadors to highlight the importance of ethical sourcing.

In a first of its kind initiative for the foodservice industry, the ambassadors will help the tens of thousands of Compass employees take their own steps towards Fairtrade.

Compass is the leading supporter of Fairtrade in the foodservice industry and has maintained double digit sales growth of Fairtrade products over the last six years.

With Fairtrade Fortnight running from 27 February to 11 March, group managing director Ian Sarson said it’s now time to increase its Fairtrade efforts.

“Our commitment to Fairtrade is helping farmers, workers and their families throughout developing countries improve their livelihoods, helping them get a better deal for their products,” he said.

“Over the last few years we have achieved a number of industry firsts including swapping to 100 per cent Fairtrade sugar and bananas and I am extremely proud of our achievements to date.

“It’s now time to raise the bar further and through the launch of the Fairtrade Ambassadors Scheme our aim is to engage all of our employees and encourage them to get involved and take important steps for Fairtrade, further supporting these communities across the globe.”

For the past three years running, Compass has been presented with the Fairtrade award at the Menu Innovation and Development Awards (MIDAS) for its company-wide commitment to ethical sourcing.
