Crop protection group Syngenta has launched a new book for the whole food supply chain to help explain measures in place to ensure food safety in growing food.

Gaining Consumer Confidence was published last week and aims to provide growers, retailers and consumers with facts on crop protection products as well as details of independent testing to assure the safety of consumers in new product development.

The foreword to the book is written by Sir Colin Berry, former chairman of the UK advisory committee on pesticides and a leading independent authority on the issue. He describes the text as a 'clear account of what happens in setting standards that apply to the safety of our food' and as a 'valuable source of data and explanation'.

Syngenta's Nigel Thornton told freshinfo the 50-page book gives a fair view. 'It gives a balanced argument as to why consumers should be confident,' he said. 'It features widely used information and gives all sides of the story.' The guide is available from Syngenta free of charge to growers, retailers and others in the food industry by calling 0800 652 4216 or sending an e-mail to syngenta.publications@yesresponse.co.uk
