A record rise in food prices has driven a rise in inflation well above the Bank of England target.

Official figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show the UK Consumer Prices Index (CPI) inflation rate rose to 3.3 per cent in November, up from 3.2 per cent in October,

The Bank of England's inflation target is two per cent and it is thought the rise was partly driven by a record rise in food prices between October and November.

Food and non-alcoholic drinks rose by 1.6 per cent, compared with 0.6 per cent a year ago.

The Retail Prices Index rose from 4.5 per cent to 4.7 per cent, according to the ONS.
