The food industry will attempt to find some answers and solutions to dealing with the economic climate at a conference in Berlin next month.

The Private Label Manufacturers Association (PMLA)’s annual roundtable conference entitled Private Label and the Economy will give an update on issues in the EU, look at new product ideas and study the retail sector in depth.

Historically customers have switched to private labels in times of wider economic trouble however the conference will examine the role discounters may play in surviving the crisis.

High profile speakers include James Collins of the Deutsche Bank, Planet Retails’ Matthias Queck, retail consultant Yves Marin and Hendrik Jan can Oostrum of the Dutch Retail Association.

The conference will be held on 25-26 February in Berlin under the sub-heading 'Finding the best strategy for retailers and manufacturers'.
