The Florida fresh citrus industry is considering changes to the state’s federal citrus marketing order, which would allow for research and promotion campaigns.
Up to now, the marketing order in force in Florida governs the grade and size of fresh grapefruit and other citrus lines, but growers could be about to change the decades-old order to allow the Florida Citrus Administrative Committee to carry out production-oriented, as well as market, research and promotional activity.
Meanwhile, industry leaders for the state and from Texas and California are all involved in talks to create a national programme that would focus on research.
