Prepared salad specialist Florette has reported a robust trading period over the past month.

Mark Newton, managing director of the lead sponsor of the Re:fresh Awards 2008, said: “A strong brand performance and warm autumn weather extended the salad season for Florette.”

He reported dramatic growth over the past four weeks of 40 per cent and a year-long increase of more than 11 per cent, outperforming the maturing market, which grew at 1.5 per cent. Florette is recognised as the market leader and attributes its recent strong showing to important distribution gains and listings that have fuelled growth, as well as additional support for Florette Mixed and Crispy in the national retailers and increased distribution for new products such as Florette Spinach Salad.

The new line is proving the jewel in the crown for Florette. It is a 150g mix of spinach leaves, red and green Batavia and baby red Chard and retails at £1.59. “Florette’s Spinach Salad was launched earlier in the year and is on course to be valued at well over £1.5 million after a strong summer and autumn sales performance,” said Newton.

“Florette’s autumn results show UK consumers’ continuing readiness to extend the salad season. Year-round salad eating is now an established fact among Florette customers. Even with the wettest summer on record, Florette is still delivering double-digit growth well ahead of the market.”
