Safeway stores in Stevenston, Ayrshire and Willerby near Hull took part in the Singles in Store Pink Lady promotion where shoppers were encouraged to flirt with each other in the aisles and enter a competition to win romantic dinners for two.

Pink Lady flirting guides written by Peta Heskell were available in both stores and some 7,000 consumers nation-wide applied for copies through promotions in regional newspapers and national magazine as well as through radio shows and on websites.

Heskell also appeared on Meridian TV promoting the guide with disgraced former MP Neil Hamilton and his wife Christine.

The events were so successful that organisers at the Yes consultancy are planning to roll them out to more stores in 2003.

Next on the Pink Lady calendar is the Ready Steady Go challenge which starts next month run with Fitness First gyms with a new Smart car the prize in the second year of this nation-wide competition.
