From December 1 four new varieties of lettuce will be available under the Flandria quality label.

Coral lettuce, batavia lettuce, cos lettuce and radicchio will join the list of Flandria produce that undergoes unique pre-harvest analyses for residues.

Coral lettuce is a crinkly lettuce with a highly branched leaf structure, and is very similar to lollo bionda and lollo rossa. It will be available in red and green varieties. However, coral lettuce has a shorter base meaning that when the base is trimmed the head splits open to reveal loose leaves making it convenient to use.

Batavia is similar to butterhead lettuce with wavy, decorative leaves. Two varieties will be sold under Flandria: green and reddish brown. It will initially be supplied from May to November.

By offering cos lettuce in 800g portions, the lettuce will be classified in the top range of braising greens. Flandria will work with the same sizing for cos lettuce as for butterhead, with three additional weight grades: 550g, 650g and 800g. This variety will be available from April to October.

Finally, radicchio is a decorative red variety of butterhead lettuce, and will be available from March to November.
