Wye Valley asparagus reaches New Covent Garden Market

The first early crop of freshly grown English asparagus has arrived at New Covent Garden Market and Budgens.

Damian Fowler from C&C Group at New Covent Garden Market has taken delivery of the first English asparagus well before its usual mid-April and June season.

Budgens has secured an English glass house crop from IVG White, part of the Keelings Group with growers in Worcestershire and Cambridgeshire.

The newly designed Chalfont and Holt Budgens stores were selected to receive this early asparagus as they have strong sales of fresh fruit and vegetables.

Earlier in February Worcestershire's S&A Produce broke the record for the country’s earliest crop, ensuring asparagus was on Tesco's shelves in time for Valentine’s Day.
