A further three firefighters from Warwickshire’s fire service have been invited to give evidence under caution over the deaths of four firefighters killed in a packhouse blaze at Wealmoor's Atherstone-on-Stour facility in the county in November 2007.

Police interest in these three firefighters is in addition to the arrest of another three firefighters last month, and brings the total interviewed by police to six.

All three of those arrested in February were involved in the incident command process and were questioned with regard to gross negligence manslaughter in relation to the deaths and offences under the Health and Safety at Work Act.

Matt Wrack, Fire Brigades Union general secretary, said: “It is important for the families and colleagues of those who died to establish what happened. It is important that all fire services learn all the lessons from this incident and we support that aim.”
