Birds Eye boss Martin Glenn’s predictions about the growth of the frozen industry are unsurprising given his company’s portfolio, but he does have a point that consumers are starting to be more aware of the need to reduce waste.

Frozen veg is rightly part of that picture, but that needn’t be to the detriment of fresh. Both can co-exist without the need to denigrate the other, and both have an important role to play in improving the health of the nation.

On another subject, there’s inevitably been a lot of negative headlines around the industry recently, particularly with all the crop losses and the debate over retail relations.

In spite of this, there is a huge range of impressive work taking place throughout the supply chain in terms of innovation, marketing and efficient working practices.

To celebrate this, we are planning to run a special ‘good news’ issue on 14 December, where our features will put an accent on some of the upbeat stories and reasons for optimism within the trade.

So if you’ve got a great story to tell, let us know. In the world of news it’s not always easy to find the positive, but that’s exactly what we will be looking to do.
