Healthy-eating campaigners are ramping up their efforts to force the government to cut VAT on fruit juices and smoothies.
Supporters including drink-maker Innocent and the British Soft Drinks Association have joined forces to get the tax lowered from its current level of 17.5 per cent to five per cent.
The major bone of contention is that products such as hot dogs and crisps are able to benefit from the lower VAT rate.
Innocent's Jamie Mitchell said: "The Government can encourage positive purchasing by making all fruit juices and smoothies more affordable."
