The EU Standing Committee has discussed the introduction of measures to control Epitrix, the Fresh Produce Consortium (FPC) has said.

Fera has advised the FPC that, following support from member states, the Commission has agreed emergency measures should be introduced as soon as possible in 2012.

This would cover the main period when ware potatoes will start to move in the EU.

Fera believes the adopted legislation will be in place by March or April at the latest.

The FPC said measures will be based on the EPPO PRA, as confirmed by the Commission working group in September, but it said it would need to see the fine detail Commission’s draft proposal before approving the measures.

Fera has asked whether companies are reviewing their sourcing arrangements and avoiding potatoes with soil attached from infested areas.
