Fenmarc opens doors in open farm day

Grower-packer Fenmarc Produce opened its farm gates to pupils from Ten Mile Bank Primary School to share their knowledge about the field to fork process in support of LEAF’s national initiative Open Farm Sunday.

Despite the event traditionally occurring on a Sunday, Fenmarc - along with friends of the business Potato Pete and Katie Carrot -continued their work with local schools and welcomed over 30 pupils to Hope Farm in Southery mid-week for a fun filled day of learning about growing vegetables.

During the visit, children showed their competitive side with the race to win Fenmarc’s human-sized vegetable board game, got their hands dirty by digging up some of Fenmarc’s Belana potatoes, and made a yummy potato base pizza to take home for their dinner.

Gemma Davis, marketing co-ordinator for Fenmarc, said: "Educating children about the field to fork process is vital to encouraging greater consumption of fresh potatoes and vegetables. The purpose of the day is to teach children about what’s involved in growing produce, as well as offering them advice about the process so they can get more involved with growing their food. We love taking part in national projects such as this; the whole team enjoyed the fun filled day of farming and interacting with the children!"
