Godfrey: "Delighted" that Fell is joining the AHDB board

Fiona Fell has been appointed to the board of the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB), and aschair of AHDB’s Potato Council, which advises the levy board’s potato division.

She has been an independent member of AHDB’s Potato Council sector board for six years and has been acting as interim chair following the death of former AHDB board member and Potato Council sector board chair, David Piccaver, in December 2013.

Based in Northumberland, Fell comes from a farming family in Worcestershire. While a partner in the family farm, Fell trained and worked as a vet for a number of years. Until recently she was a non-executive director of The Moredun Foundation and The Moredun Research Institute, which exists to prevent and control the infectious diseases of livestock through distinguished research.

Fell, who has also chaired the R&D Committee for AHDB’s potato division, started her new role today (1 April).

Outgoing AHDB chairman, John Godfrey, said: “I am delighted to welcome Fiona to the board. She has already helped to drive AHDB forward since the sad death of David Piccaver, and I fully expect her considerable experience and passion for the industry to make a real contribution to the overall direction of AHDB as we help our levy payers through the years ahead.”

The appointment, made by Defra, has been approved by the devolved administrations (Scottish Government, Welsh Government and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development for Northern Ireland).

Fell has been given a three-year term, and will be paid £32,000 per annum on a two-days-a-week basis.
