Farmers trial new Maxicast granule applicator

The new design nemathorin Maxicast applicator from Techneat engineering is being trialed this season by three eastern county potato growers.

The large-scale potato growers from Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire participating in the trial will put the nemathorin PCN nematicide applicator to rigorous field tests in order to validate its precision and sturdiness. Techneat application specialist Tom Neat said the Maxicast is fitted with a tailor-made nemathorin cartridge metering mechanism for precise granule measuring as well as a spreader plate for accurate granule placement that adjusts the output electronically. “The hopper can carry nemathorin granules for a typical 10 hectare day’s work with a bed tiller...enabling operators to full up in the mornings in the years, without the need to transport to field and handle product in the field,” he said.

The trial applicators feature a mounted granule hopper that can hold up to 300kg, which make loading easier than using conventional small hoppers. This will reduce downtime while filling as well as minimise handling operations. Techneat claim the new design will also improve weight distribution, remove vibration problems and stress from hoppers on bed tillers and separators.

The results from the field tests will be monitored and recorded for applicator performance and ease of operation.
