Fargro’s transformation from a co-operative to a private limited company moved a step closer last week after members voted overwhelmingly in favour of the change.

In the first round of voting over 70 percent of members had their say, with 97 percent voting in favour of conversion. In a second ballot 58 percent of members voted, with 99 percent backing the proposals.

Fargro has operated as an industry and provident society, a form of co-operative, ever since its inception in 1944, but earlier this year its board indicated the wish to become a private company following a business review.

Of this week’s vote, chairman David Godsmark said: “The vote to convert will provide Fargro with the structure for a modern forward-looking business.”
