F&PA attracts 130,000 to website

The Flowers & Plants Association website continues to go from strength to strength. Having steadily attracted an increasing number of visitors every month in 2004, it has now set a new record of more than 130,000 individual users.

The F&PA said: “This is an enormous achievement, particularly given that no money is spent on promoting it within search engine rankings or through banner advertisements. The site's five most popular pages are: the index, the new trends page, the where-to-buy page, the weddings page and the roses page.”

The site gives up to the minute information on the current trends in cut flowers and plants as well being a source of information on care and identification. The site, with its simple address, flowers.org.uk is recommended on the BBC website when using their search engine to search 'flowers'.

The F&PA was one of the first trade associations in the industry to set up a website in 1997. Chief executive Veronica Richardson said: “The reason our website is so popular is that it is purely an information giving site. When the site first went live we were delighted to get 500 visitors, the fact that we have now exceeded 100,000 is fantastic.”

The F&PA is aiming to increase visitor numbers in 2005, seeing the website as an important tool for encouraging the UK consumer to purchase more cut flowers and indoor plants.
