Artificial spider webs is the latest weapon devised to provide maximum protection for crops grown in greenhouses and other protected structures.

The new technology will be unveiled at the forthcoming Agro-Mashov Agricultural Exhibition in Israel, to be held at the Tel Aviv Exhibition Grounds March 2-3.

The new technology, named "Spider-Net", creates an environmental defense structure around crops grown in greenhouses and in protected structures, such as nethouses, thus preventing "even the tiniest pests, such as trips and Bemisia tabaci from penetrating through to crops and damaging them," said Haim Alush, director of the Agro-Mashov Exhibition.

He added that the artificial spider webs, manufactured by the Israeli company Kleiman Meteor, enables air to get through the area where crops are grown.

The new technology has several advantages, among them increasing yields, protecting them against strong winds, heavy rainfall and hail, as well as reducing farmers' operational costs. Small pests cause heavy damages mainly in vegetable and flower crops, and the technology aims at providing a maximum "defense mechanism" against these pests.
