Fairtrade receives marketing accolade

The Fairtrade Foundation scooped a prestigious award last week recognising excellence in marketing, just in time for Fairtrade Fortnight, which gets underway today.

The annual award from the Chartered Institute of Marketing’s Food, Drink & Agriculture Market Interest Group (CIM FDA) was presented to Harriet Lamb, executive director of the Fairtrade Foundation, by Justin King, Sainsbury’s chief executive, at the House of Lords on Thursday.

John Giles, a divisional director with Promar and the current FDA chairman, said: “The Fairtrade Foundation has created a powerful brand through its accreditation scheme for Fairtrade goods, and this has happened in a relatively short space of time. They have initiated word of mouth to make the concept of Fairtrade an internationally-recognised brand. We applaud their ability to create real value for hard-pressed and disadvantaged farmers and exporters working in developing countries.”

The event was sponsored by the Hartington Group, an agri food and rural consulting firm.
