Latest figures released from Fairtrade reveals that sales of Fairtrade foods have risen by more than 90 per cent in the past two years.

Figures released from the first half of this year shows Fairtrade is maintaining momentum. The latest figures from Fairtrade fortnight show promising signs for retailers. Co-op saw a 35 per cent increase in sales comparing pre and post Fairtrade fortnight, and a 112 per cent increase comparing year-on-year sales with 2002.

Tesco saw a 70 per cent increase year-on-year, while Sainsbury's sales were up 14 per cent comparing pre and post fortnight. Waitrose, also, saw a 31 per cent increase in sales comparing pre and post fortnight and reported a 24 per cent year-on-year increase comparing sales with last year.

More multiples are participating in Fairtrade fruit and there is good growth in the independent sector too. There are now nearly 60 companies offering 130 Fairtrade foods.
