Extra Special spuds in at Asda

Elizabeth potatoes reappeared on the shelves at Asda last week.

The variety has been supplied exclusively to the UK number-two retailer for the second year running.

The salad potatoes have a thin, firm skin and waxy texture, and can be thrown straight into a pot to be steamed or boiled.

Agrimarc is growing the spuds in Cornwall and Suffolk on behalf of Fenmarc Produce Ltd.

Brothers Philip, Chris and Geoff Mayhew at AW Mayhew Farms of Home Farm, Woolverstone, near Ipswich, are some of the growers producing the Elizabeth variety.

“We have been eating Elizabeth from the field for a few days now, and are really pleased that they are now ready for Asda customers to enjoy their fantastic taste and texture”, said Geoff Mayhew, pictured.

Asda buying manager Drew Kirk added: “It’s that time of year again for exclusive Extra Special Elizabeth potatoes at Asda. With their great taste, texture and consistent shape, the variety is the ideal potato for summer eating. I believe the product ticks all the boxes for the customer, and delivers a perfect balance for stylish salad dishes.”

The Extra Special Elizabeth potatoes will be available in stores for a limited period from the end of July.
