Pitahaya, tamarillo, curuba, feijoa, gulopa and lulo are just a few of the products on offer from Colombian company Frizcol.
The company, founded eight years, offers a whole range of tropical fruits, either fresh, as pulp or dried, with the most popular items are maracuja and uchuva, the latter being better known to us as cape gooseberry or physalis.
“At the height of the season we ship 7,000 cases of maracuja, each weighing two kilograms”, explained Rodolfo Ahumada, managing director. “And we are one of the country's ten leading exporters of uchavas.”
The company ships around 40,000 kilograms of this tropical fruit, which is packed with vitamin A and shaped like a Chinese lantern, during the main harvesting season.
Ahumada said the company had managed to contact new customers by exhibiting at Fruit Logistica, and said by the time the first contracts are signed his suppliers will in all probability have already obtained the EurepGAP certification.
