Exosect, a supplier of intelligent pest management solutions, addressed a unique group of stakeholders in agricultural biotechnology this week, on its own experience of bringing innovative and environmentally sustainable agricultural technology to the market.

Organised by the Royal Agricultural Society of England (RASE) and supported by Coutts & Co, the forum, held in London, was designed to demonstrate real and exciting investment opportunities in UK agriculture.

Speaking at the event, managing director at Exosect, Martin Brown, explained how the firm has recently moved from the core research and development phase into the key commercial phase of the business life cycle, and emphasised the importance of having involved investors with a long-term view in this sector.

He also explained how Exosect has succeeded in attracting investment from key venture capital funds, allowing it to bring innovative, environmentally sustainable products from the very basic research phase right through to launch.

Brown said: “This has been an excellent forum in which to demonstrate the enormous potential that UK-based research companies can offer for the investment community, especially in light of the pressures that worldwide agriculture is now facing to reduce pesticide use and move towards zero residues.

"I hope I have provided some inspiration in demonstrating that the investment potential in this sector can be as sustainable as the technology that is being developed and supported.”

Sir Don Curry, chairman of the government’s Sustainable Farming & Food Strategy Group and of RASE’s “Practice with Science” Group, said: “Today we have highlighted the role of science in supporting agriculture and biotechnology and illustrated the importance of attracting investment to commercialise the UK’s excellent agricultural research to ensure it establishes a world-leading role."
