Ex-BBC anchor joins Sainsbury's

Former BBC newsreader Anna Ford has joined the board of Sainsbury's as a non-executive director. Part of her remit is to look at the relationship between the retailer and its supplier base.

Making the move less than a week after her final news broadcast for the BBC, Ford will be paid £45,000 a year and will ‘take a particular interest in corporate responsibility issues,’ Sainsbury’s announced.

Her appointment comes before a potential new inquiry from the Competition Commission where supermarkets’ power will be investigated.

Speaking of her appointment, Ford said: “I'm very interested in the whole issue of food quality and innovation, where it comes from, and what consumers want. It's great to be involved at such an interesting time in Sainsbury's development.”
