Fruit and vegetable consumption is increasing across Europe, according to new research from Europe-wide industry body Freshfel.

“The results of our consumption monitor 2005 indicate an improvement in the consumption of fruit and vegetables across Europe,” said Laurence Swan, chairman of the Freshfel working group on promotion. “This represents a change from the overall picture presented in previous years, but within the data, individual countries continue to perform badly. There is the need therefore more than ever to design a coherent, comprehensive and efficient European promotion policy to stimulate fresh produce consumption.”

The consumption monitor is Freshfel’s third edition of the report that was first published in 2003. It includes information specific to 13 European countries - Belgium, the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, The Netherlands and the United Kingdom.

Copies of the report are available free to members or for e100 for non-members.
