Euro Pool System hosted a donation campaign for Haiti during Fruit Logistica, following the recent earthquake in the central American country.

For each rotation registered during the Fruit Logistica fair, the logistic service provider donated €0.25(21p) to the stricken area. With three days of fair reaching an average 1.8 million rotations a day, the donation is expected to finally tot up to €13,500.

Despite the ongoing relief efforts, relief organisations still urgently need volunteer assistance and money to rebuild in Haiti.

Euro Pool System is one of Europe's largest logistics service providers of returnable packaging for fresh produce. With 45 service centres spread across Europe, the company deploys 123m blue and green recyclable containers that rotate more than 600m times a year.

At the same event, the company registered a record number of more than 600m rotations, an ample seven per cent increase on 2008. At the fair in Berlin, a Spanish supplier Iberiana handed the 600-millionth crate over to Kai Hubert, senior purchaser at German retailer Bartels-Langness B.V.

Peter Willems, Euro Pool System‘s chief executive, said: “In the six biggest European fruit and vegetable producing countries, we have an average market share of 41 per cent. What’s more, our crates are ranked among the best in the market. These advantages have led us to achieve considerable growth, not only in the number of rotations, but also in the expansion of our European customer portfolio. Euro Pool System is proud of its results, particularly in light of the worldwide crisis.”
