The new 610 tray was unveiled at the Fruit Logistica event in Berlin earlier this month and hailed as a prototype for a new generation of reusable foldable containers. In a symbolic gesture Euro Pool general manager Arie de Bruijn handed the new crate over to Toni Font, fresh produce manager at Spanish retailer Caprabo.

The 610 is a 60x40x10cm when in use and only 60x40x3cm folded representing a 70 per cent space saving. It is also interstackable with existing Euro Pool foldable containers and is suitable for packing and transport of even the most delicate tree fruit such as peaches and nectarines. It is also suitable for prepared and pre-packed produce applications. As a result of customer requests the 610 also has more ventilation holes in the bottom to help promote increased shelf life.

The new container is being rolled out to production this year.
