EurepGAP's independent chairman Nigel Garbutt will announce membership is continuing to increase at the organisation's fourth bi-annual conference held in Madrid next week on September 10-12.

The body represents over 10,000 producers in 33 countries, as well as major distributors and global supermarkets, which have joined the organisation since 1996. Garbutt said: "We are delighted that our numbers continue to grow reflecting our value."

The three-day meeting will also be a landmark in other respects. Consumer health and protection commission David Byrne will be addressing delegates via a video message. It will set the scene for the presentation of the revised Fresh Produce Protocol achieved through a two-year examination by the Technical and Standards Committee.

Garbutt said: "Members have had to contend with entirely different conditions affecting production, but the current and revised protocol will allow them all to continue to achieve and maintain EurepGAP certification."
