Spanish trade association Intercitrus has confirmed that contrary to earlier reports, the joint agreement is not for promotions within the EU. As yet no firm decisions have been made on which countries will be targeted.

The organisation will be working with representatives from Italy and Greece to promote Spanish oranges and clementines, Italian blood oranges and Greek oranges.

By linking different products and source countries, citrus growers also stand to benefit from some EU funding to boost their promotions for the 2002-03 season. The budget is thought to run to several million euros.
