The Food & Environment Research Agency (FERA) is consulting with the potato sector on proposals to introduce emergency measures against the flea beetle Epitrix.

The pest is not present in the UK, but has been identified in Spain and Portugal, from which the UK imports potatoes. Measures could be in place early next year to provide protection during the 2011 season, in advance of an EU position being developed.

Those potentially affected should contact FERA or the FPC before 5 November.
