The written consultations of stakeholders and interested parties were launched February 28. 'This consultation gives people at the receiving end of the government's rural policies a real chance to have their say,' said Defra minister Lord Haskins. 'I also encourage all national, regional and local organisations with an interest in rural services to give us their views and suggestions. By sharing their experience of receiving rural services and the strengths and weaknesses in the present system, local people and those who represent them can ensure that their ideas and comments are taken on board.' Lord Haskins and a team from Defra are visiting the English regions in parallel with the written consultation process.

The consultation document is at www.defra.gove.uk/corporate/consult/ruraldelrev/index.htm The deadline for consultation responses is May 23, 2003.
