EMR science boss to speak at FPJ conference

East Malling Research head of science Chris Atkinson and former Concordia chair Robert Mitchell MBE have joined the FPJ Conferences - South East event schedule this Thursday.

Atkinson will address the changing face of UK production locations in the future and top-fruit grower Mitchell will provide a detailed report on where the seasonal labour debate stands within the region today.

Mitchell will be speaking alongside Hadlow College's Mark Lumsdon-Taylor, who will explain how the industry can attract more young people into various roles.

The conference, which will take an open look at the region’s fresh produce supply chain throughout the South East, will be held at the Oakwood House Hotel, Maidstone on 23 June.

There will be an interactive expo and a cookery demonstration from Reynolds' Ian Nottage, as well as two debate panels featuring the NFU’s Horticulture and Potato Board chair Sarah Pettitt and Covent Garden Market Authority’s (CGMA) Jan Lloyd.

Other speakers on the day include the National Fruit Show’s Sarah Calcutt, Mustard Communications’ Wendy Akers, Berry Gardens’ Paul Kelsey, CGMA’s Zeenat Anjari and social media guru Carol Ford.
