Elizabeth makes regal return to Asda

The “sovereign of salad potatoes”, Elizabeth, has been welcomed back onto Asda shelves for its fourth successive year within the Extra Special branding.

Elizabeth potatoes, which have a thin but firm skin, are being aimed at summer salad dishes.

The Cambridgeshire-based grower and packer Fenmarc Produce is supplying Asda with the premium potatoes. The variety is a speciality available exclusively to Asda, grown in Lincolnshire and Suffolk and packed through Fenmarc.

Mark Taylor, director of Fenmarc, said: “As the area of production expands, the opportunity for a broader product range allows more customers the chance to experience this excellent variety. We are extremely pleased to see the consistency in taste and texture of Elizabeth enjoyed by Asda customers."

Jenny Liggat, potato buyer for Asda, said: “We’re delighted to have Extra Special Elizabeth Potatoes in stock again this year. Their popularity has grown hugely over the past three years as they offer Asda shoppers a unique alternative at the height of the salad potato season.

“This is a fantastic product to be bought throughout the summer, a great tasting and easy to prepare accompaniment to most dishes. The potatoes will be available in 750g packs and can be found centre stage on the front pod in the produce aisles, easy for our customers to find."

The Extra Special Elizabeth potatoes went into stores last week.
