Fresh produce leaders from across the sector have been unveiled as the men to lead the Eat in Colour campaign to boost fresh produce consumption in the UK.
The Fresh Produce Consortium has announced its campaign management board which is made up of:
Martin Beckenham - chief executive, Horticultural Development Council
Nick Burr - produce buying director, Asda
Peter Durose - produce director, Tesco
Steve Harrison - managing director, wholesale & foodservice, Redbridge Holdings
Susie McIntyre - managing director, Kettle Produce
Alan Owens - chief executive, Greenvale AP
Laurence Olins - managing director, Poupart Group
Dickon Poole - marketing manager, JP Fruit Distributors
Michael Velasco - acting president, FPC
Nigel Jenney, chief executive of the FPC, has been confirmed as secretary to the board.
A statement from the FPC said: “A campaign strategy has been considered by the board, and work is now underway to develop a brief and identify agencies to tender for an appointment to run the campaign. It expects to appoint an agency in late May.”
The board also looked at the current funding situation and agreed further work was needed, once a campaign strategy is agreed, to encourage more companies within the fresh produce sector to pledge support.
A chairman has yet to be appointed to the project, but the position is expected to be filled at the next meeting of the campaign board.
